This unhappy circumstance can be avoided with the installation of a small solar panel. As an added benefit, absolutely nothing prolongs the life of a battery like keeping it fully charged. A battery charger can do the job for a boat on a trailer or at a dock, but there are risks to leaving an unattended boat plugged in.
A solar panel avoids these. If your boat is on a mooring, a solar panel is the only practical choice for maintaining batteries at full charge.

Battery Switches Battery Switches Battery disconnect switches help manage the overall use of electrical power on board. They are used to connect or disconnect electrical devices from the electrical system. They help to prevent battery drain during periods of inactivity. They allow for a quick and easy way to shut down the entire electrical system in an emergency. An optional key lock helps to prevent unauthorized use of the vessel.
In addition to doing everything a battery disconnect switch does, battery selector switches permit battery selection of two or more batteries for specific purposes including starting engines, running accessories or even recharging. They allow for the use of one or more batteries in systems with one or more engines and facilitate putting batteries in parallel for emergency starting when one or both batteries are substantially discharged.

Charging Your Boat Batteries
I have three posts, two small posts and one large post on my starter solenoid… Typically, GM vehicles prior to have starter solenoids with three posts: Battery — This is the large post on the solenoid which is usually found on the center top of the solenoid. This is the post where the positive battery cable attaches along with any battery feed wires that the car might require. These wires are usually heavy gauge red, or black wires and may contain a fusible link.
This post becomes hot only while the starter is cranking.
An automatic smart switch is a nice addition to any dual battery boat wiring – and a must have for trolling systems. Simply, the VSR connects between the two position battery posts through the battery switch.

They’re notorious for failing in both the open and the closed position, which respectively leads to flooding or failure to pump. If the valve is close to the pump, the pump may not be able to overcome the weight of the water on the other side of the valve, rendering the pump ineffective.
Why does my automatic Rule Pumps turns off if I install a check valve on the discharge of the pump? The automatic bilge pump turns on about every two and a half minutes to “check” for high water. If water causes resistance on the pump, it continues to pump until the resistance lowers.

The actual curved shape of the hook is intended to keep the hook from catching in the gut cavity or throat.
